NOTE:

This position primary works at the Liberty Elementary School but will work at the District Office as needed. 


JOB SUMMARY

The job of Volunteer Coordinator is done for the purpose/s of coordinating and implementing community involvement in the District's educational programs and school site activities and acquiring a broad array of community resources to support students and families throughout the District.  This position will also perform fingerprinting and assist with background checks of all volunteers.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.  Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  3. Familiarity with community agencies, resources and services for students
  4. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  5. Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have.  Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Minimum two (2) years college coursework
  2. Experience in a high school education environment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  2. Assists with coordination of service projects with business partners and individual volunteers for the purpose of involving the community in providing a wide range of supportive goods and services to schools, students, and families.
  3. Coordinates the receipt and disbursement of donated materials to schools/programs for the purpose of assisting schools in meeting the needs of school personnel, students, and families.
  4. Assists with coordination of special events and fundraisers for the purpose of raising funds to support family programs at the schools.
  5. Assists with coordination of volunteer recognition activities for the purpose of appreciating volunteers' efforts.
  6. Coordinates information between schools and businesses, community agencies, civic organizations, religious groups, and ethnic groups within Salt Lake City for the purpose of enhancing opportunities for parents and students.
  7. Conduct background check and fingerprint of all district and school-based volunteers (e.g., making appointments, performing fingerprinting, maintaining necessary records, etc.)
  8. Maintains inventories of supplies and materials (e.g. in-kind donations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items' availability as needed.
  9. Maintains a variety of records and reports (e.g. fingerprinting records,etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation to donors and others.
  10. Participates in meetings for the purpose of providing and gathering information.
  11. Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. correspondence, agendas, minutes, marketing materials, reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  12. Processes documents and materials from community agencies for the purpose of providing opportunities for students and families to enroll in programs.
  13. Researches data and information (e.g. program eligibility requirements, new initiatives, program performance, demographic statistics, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date, accurate information.
  14. Responds to inquiries (e.g. families, the public, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  15. Assists with solicitation of donations and gifts in-kind from corporations, foundations, and individuals for the purpose of supporting the District's family support programs.
  16. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines. 
  17. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  18. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  19. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  20. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations
