This Student Support Assistant will primarily provide support to the Mixed Choir classroom as a piano accompanist. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Student Support Assistant provides support to the educational mission of the school and department administrators in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires professional judgment. Individuals in these roles may be asked to move between roles and responsibilities in this job description, based on the need of the school or department. This position will supervise students during lunch and recess periods.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. 

Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  2. Adaptability and understanding of cultural differences and in working in a diverse. environment
  3. Ability to follow safety practices
  4. Flexibility to handle changing work priorities
  5. Proficiently play piano

  2. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
  3. Ability to lead, guide, and coordinate people and projects.
  4. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records using a variety of technology systems
  5. Strong problem-solving skills
  6. Knowledge of child development and ability to identify and adapt directives to students of all ages

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Play piano accompaniment for Choir/Band class. 
  2. Supervise students during non-academic activities to ensure students are behaving appropriately and are safe
  3. Promote a positive environment to prepare students for learning
  4. Playground supervision outdoors and indoors (in case of rain or snow), walk around perimeter, respond quickly to break-up scuffles, etc
  5. Be proactive in identifying, addressing, and bringing to the attention of the administrator any potential safety concerns. Report incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students and adhere to district policies, procedures, and state law
  6. Prepare teaching materials as needed, perform record-keeping and clerical functions, and organize related reports (e.g. worksheets, booklets, scheduling, copying, data recording, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to support teachers and administrators
  7. Participate in various meetings as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions, attend additional training opportunities as deemed necessary, present information to others
  8. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions; work as part of a team by collaborating with own and other work units; meet deadlines
  9. Work under limited supervision; utilize prioritization strategies; accurately process detailed information; be attentive to detail
  10. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  11. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds
  12. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements effectively and efficiently
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
