Note: This position is open to current district high school students aged 16 or older. Students hired will work during school lunch service/s, which must be outside of and not interfere with a student's school schedule.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Nutrition Technician – Student Worker prepares and serves food items to students and school personnel and maintains facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. 

Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. Able to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit within two weeks of hire
  2. Able to follow safety practices and procedures, including the proper use of food preparation equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Food handling experience
  2. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare, arrange, and serve food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements
  2. Arrange food and beverage items to serve them to students and staff in a safe and efficient manner
  3. Interact in a positive manner (e.g. students, staff, administration, general public, etc.) to maintain a friendly and welcoming environment for customer dining
  4. Clean utensils, equipment, and the storage of food preparation and serving areas (e.g. sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, washing tables, etc.) in order to maintain sanitary conditions
  5. Maintain food service equipment (e.g. weekly cleaning of proofers, ovens, steam tables, etc.) to maintain safe operating conditions
  6. Stock food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security of items
  7. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  8. Respond to inquiries from students, staff, and the public to provide information and direction regarding the type and cost of meals, and adherence to program regulations and guidelines
  9. Attend meetings as required at a minimum of 4 hours per year to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  10. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to perform the duties of the position effectively
  11. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  12. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
  13. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
