JOB SUMMARY

The job of AVID Tutor is to supervise and instruct students.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. 

Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, work as part of a team, work with frequent interruptions, and prioritize
  3. Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds
  4. Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with students, supervisors, co-workers, parents, and other district employees
  5. Speak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Prior tutoring experience in K-12 setting
  2. Fluency in another language other than English

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present and reinforce learning concepts
  2. Assist with homework assignments and make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the instructional process
  3. Guide students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) to ensure student success
  4. Monitors individuals and groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, library, college visits, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  5. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, attendance, etc.) to support the teacher and administrator in providing records/materials
  6. Maintains regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

 

EMPLOYEE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:       No

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
