This position offers flexibility as either an in-person or remote work. The incumbent must be available for in-person meetings as needed and must reside in Utah.
JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Dietician assists the Director of Child Nutrition in the provision of food service and nutritional programs. The incumbent plans and monitors special diets and school menus as needed based on established guidelines; and complies with federal, state, and local regulations and program mandates.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or relevant field
- Two (2) years of relevant work experience, or a combination of a graduate degree and relevant education, may be accepted in lieu of experience
- Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
- Working knowledge of nutritional laws, principles, and concepts including federal child nutrition regulations and guidelines
- Intermediate-level Microsoft Office Suite skills
- Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.
- Registered Dietician with certification through the Commission on Dietetics Registration
- One (1) year of experience in food nutrition analysis, including food production and safe food handling
- Basic computer ability with Primero Edge, Isite Menus, or other school inventory/menu planning software programs
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze menus and recipes to ensure conformance with nutritional requirements
- Collaborate with others (e.g. health professionals, parents, food suppliers, district personnel, community organizations, state agencies, etc.) to implement and maintain services and programs while accommodating student dietary needs, including special meal requests
- Assist in the development of new menus for food service operations to create standardized and appealing menus that comply with federal nutritional requirements
- Responsible for program compliance to all requests for special dietary meals
- Communicate with school administrators, staff, district personnel, etc., to present information, gather information, and monitor adherence to program regulations and guidelines
- Present information (e.g. school menus, special diets, etc.), to department personnel and stakeholders to communicate information, gather feedback, ensure adherence to established internal controls, and to create a better understanding of nutritional concepts that lead to a healthy lifestyle
- Research a variety of information to provide information and recommendations for addressing a variety of administrative requirements
- Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, and trainings as required at a minimum of 6 hours annually (e.g. Healthy Edge, Safety and Sanitation, etc.) to convey and gather information required to perform functions
- Compose, process, and maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. policies, procedures, manuals, production records, menus, ingredient lists, reports, letters, directories, presentations, minutes, agendas, grants, etc.) to provide written support, convey information and provide an audit trail for compliance
- Assist in updating department software programs (e.g. Primero Edge, Isite Menus, etc.), to ensure accurate record keeping, and program compliance, and communicate current information to kitchen managers, the school community, and other stakeholders
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
- Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements
- As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 30 pounds
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective function of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting up to 30 pounds, rolling, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
