JOB SUMMARY
The hourly nurse will travel to assigned schools and administer the appropriate insulin dose as prescribed by the healthcare plan, which serve as doctor's orders. The hourly insulin nurse may be tasked with additional student care needs including but not limited to catheterization and enteral feeding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Current State of Utah RN License issued by Utah's DOPL (Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing)
- Knowledge of diabetes and be able to recognize and properly treat both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, administer insulin using a sliding scale and correction formula.
- Applicants must feel comfortable working independently in multiple schools and have reliable transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in job related field
- 2 years nursing experience, and experience working with children or adults with diabetes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The usual and customary methods of performing job functions require sitting, walking, standing, bending, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, driving an automobile, etc. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
- Driving to work locations.
- Risks found in the typical work environment, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
